The number of sightings of reptiles humanoids kind of creatures have being increasing lately. One of the most (un)famous is the The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp, from South Carolina, the creature is also known as the Lizard Man of Lee County.
One of the first reported sight from this creature occurred near Scape Ore Swamp in South Carolina, in 1988, a bipedal lizard creature with seven feet (2.1 m) tall, ranging from green to dark in color with red eyes. A few witnesses have reported seeing a tail, although in the majority of cases, a tail was not seen.
The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp first reported sighting
Christopher Davis, at the time was a 17-year-old local boy, who encountered the creature while driving home from work at 2 AM, while changing his tire, on June 29, 1988.
“I looked back and saw something running across the field towards me. It was about 25 yards away and I saw red eyes glowing. I ran into the car and as I locked it, the thing grabbed the door handle. I could see him from the neck down – the three big fingers, long black nails and green rough skin. It was strong and angry. I looked in my mirror and saw a blur of green running. I could see his toes and then he jumped on the roof of my car. I thought I heard a grunt and then I could see his fingers through the front windshield, where they curled around on the roof. I sped up and swerved to shake the creature off.”
Chris’s father, prompted by a story that ran in the newspaper of a strange car mauling, brought his terrified son to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on July 16, 1988, at which time he told his story to Sheriff Liston Truesdale.
The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp has been see before
On July 14, the same year, Lee County Sheriff’s Office was called in the morning the small town community known as Browntown on the outskirts of Bishopville, South Carolina, to investigate the damage on Tom and Mary Waye’s car.
They witness the chrome molding appeared been chewed and torn away from the fenders, the sidewalls were scratched and dented, the hood ornament was broken, the antenna was bent, and even some wires from the motor had been ripped out, clumps of reddish colored hair and muddy footprints that had been left all over the car.
Soon they learned from neighbors that they had been seeing a strange creature about seven feet tall with red eyes, some of them described it as green, but some of them as brown.
Other Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp incidents
After that June of 1988, a wave of reliable witness came forward to report a large lizard like creature, and of unusual scratches and bite marks found on cars parked close to the swamps of Bishopville, in an area with a radius of 3 miles (around 5 km).
By the end of the month Sheriff’s Department made several plaster casts of what appeared to be three-toed footprints – measuring some 14 inches (36 cm) in length. South Carolina Marine Resources Department spokesperson Johnny Evans stated that those racks neither matched, nor could be mistaken for, the footprints of any recorded animal, nor mutated creature, becoming “unclassifiable” species.
With the end of the summer the reports of the creature began to decline, even with a $1 million reward to anybody who could capture the creature alive.
In the same season, but in 1990, July 30, approximately 10:30 p.m., while crossing over the interstate and were nearing the intersection of Hickory Hill Road, Bertha Blythers and her five children witnessed large figure lunged toward the passenger side of the car. She was not able to make out any clear facial details in the short time it was in front of her, but she was quite sure the body was covered in brown hair. “I never seen anything like it before,” she told the police. “It wasn’t a deer or a bear. It was definitely not a person either.”
Would that be the same creature? Sounds more like a Bigfoot this time.
Thru the years other sightings of The Lizard Man of Scape Ore Swamp has been reported, and in 2015 two witness presented questionable images of the monster.
