A blackout struck a large swath of central and south Brazil Tuesday night, affecting at least seven states this Tuesday at 10:15pm local time (7:15 ET).
Before the blackout some people from south of Brazil informed been seen strange and brights (yellow/green/blue/orange colors) in the sky of Parana State at a chat from the website Justin.tv. Thirty minutes later the power went off in 7 states, Rio de Janeiro Sao Paulo, Goias, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul and Espirito Santo.
The G1 Web site of Globo TV says Brazil lost 17,000 megawatts of power after an unspecified problem happened at the Itaipu dam that straddles the border of Brazil and Paraguay.
