A councilman has sparked controversy by calling the police in New Castle, State of New York (USA), because two teenagers of 13 years old were selling unlicensed bakery goods sale, according to a report in the Journal News.
Councilman Michael Wolfensohn called the police after catching DeMarchi Andrew and Kevin Graff, both of 13 years, selling cookies, brownies and other sweets. The children’s parents were outraged at how Wolfensohn addressed the issue.
“I am shocked and saddened by the boys. It was a great idea, and they worked hard for it,” said Laura Graff, mother of Kevin. The mother of one boy says her son was so upset that “he was crying all the whole way home and] he was worried if he was going to get arrested or have a criminal record.”
According to Suzanne Demarchi, mother of Andrew, until the officer looked embarrassed at having to verify the claims made by Alderman.
